To maintain a safe, comfortable environment, we require all pets to be current on their rabies vaccinations and to wait at least 5 days after any vaccinations before checking in. Proof of rabies vaccination in the form of paperwork may be required. The waiting period helps to ensure your pet isn't sore at the injection site, which can cause irritability or lethargy. This is also to prevent stressing a pet who may be experiencing an unexpected allergic reaction from a vaccine/vaccination.
We ask that you please have all dogs on a leash when entering and exiting the store. This is to ensure the safety of your pet and others. Cats need to be in a carrier for safe transport to and from the store. For returning clients, we do offer curbside drop-off and pickup, but please make sure to ask about this when scheduling your appointment.
All pets are required to be bathed as part of our FULL GROOMING PACKAGE. This is not only for the benefit of your pet, but also to not damage the groomer’s equipment. Each pet is bathed with an all-natural shampoo and conditioner. For pets with allergies, skin issues, or other sensitivities, clients are welcome to provide any vet-prescribed medicated shampoos as needed. All of our shampoos are of the highest quality and safe for both dogs and cats.
All pets will have their ears cleaned with a mild ear cleaner. If your pet has an ear infection we will let you know so you may consult your veterinarian. Ear hair will be removed/not removed based on your preference and your vet’s advice. Ear hair removal is typically a standard part of the grooming process, if you choose to not have our pet’s ear hair removed please let us know immediately.
All nails will be trimmed during each FULL GROOMING or NAIL TRIMMING appointment. We always do our best to trim the nails as short as possible, without hurting your pet. Should your pet show any signs of aggression during the nail trimming process, we will inform you if we can muzzle your pet for the safety of the groomer and the pet during the nail trimming only. We do not like to use muzzles and will try everything possible to avoid muzzling your pet. If your pet is showing signs of stress or aggression, we may not be able to trim their nails.
We will only brush your pet's teeth and will not be able remove plaque or tartar. Clients are highly advised to bring their pet's own toothbrushes, however we also have toothbrushes that we use & sanitize regularly. Clients may also purchase a toothbrush in our store to be used for your pet during the grooming session.
There are several things to keep in mind when your dog or cat is being groomed. Pets are washed before the groom. A clean pet is easier to groom than a dirty one. Depending on how well your pet handles the dryers, it is difficult to know how long your pet will take to be dried. We aim to have all pets done within a 3-4 hour window, but this is not always possible. After your pet dries, the groomer will trim their nails, clean the ears, and then begin the grooming process.
Some pets may or may not like being brushed, and if they have mats it can be a time-consuming process. Mats that are too close to the skin may need to be cut out for the comfort of your pet. Some pets may tolerate pain & discomfort better than others. Please keep in mind there is only so much we can do when a dog or cat has severe matting. If we cannot do what you ask, we will notify you of other options. For extremely matted fur, we may refuse to groom your pet and instead advise you to bring them to your vet. This is to avoid any untoward incidents that may happen to both your pet and the groomer.
You will always have the opportunity to speak with your groomer when you drop off and pick up your pet after. Should you wish to view the grooming process of your pet, you may stay outside the grooming area.
There is always the possibility of cuts, nicks, or burns during the grooming process. Some pets are harder to handle than others and accidents can occur. There are also times when mat burns show after they are shaved out. This is not caused by the groomer being careless but by the severity of the mats. We will always do an inspection of your pet upon arrival and in the bathtub. Your groomer will notify you of anything they find during those.
Should any cuts occur during the grooming process, we will notify you and advise you on how to treat these. Injuries caused due to the condition of the dog or cat matting are NOT the responsibility of Kochi Pets and any vet costs due to these are at the expense of the client.
